ROSA released the final version of “ROSA Desktop 2011 Extended Edition”

ROSA presents the final version of “ROSA Desktop 2011 Extended Edition” (ROSA Desktop 2011 EE). This distribution targets users interested in additional functionality on top of “ROSA Desktop 2011” features, as well as users, who would like to always have one disk with all essential applications at hand.
“ROSA Desktop 2011 EE” is based on already well-established distribution “ROSA Desktop 2011”, which was released in late August 2011. Since its release, "Quick Start Guide" for “ROSA Desktop 2011” was published, the kernel was updated to version 2.6.39.4.2, new locales were added (French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and others), as well as additional image customizing options for advanced users.
Over 200 packages were updated, over 120 errors fixed (including 12 critical ones), and 6 new features implemented.
Other additions to the image of “ROSA Desktop 2011” include 13 brand new sets of icons from our designers and 2 missing icons for LibreOffice. This significantly improved system's overal appearance.
As for existing and new applications, the distribution is supplemented by the updated version of “Firefox” and “Thunderbird 8.0” (localizations error fixed), a branded video player “ROSA Media Player” (preinstalled by default), reinforced with professional design (GIMP, Inkcape and DigiKam) and video editing (PiTiVi replaced with KDENlive) applications. The distribution includes popular applications like Skype and AdobeReader, as well as lots of games.
In connection with the release of “Rosa Desktop 2011 EE”, current images of “Rosa Desktop 2011” are also updated, to allow users to apply the latest developments to the main image. "We always focus on caring about our users: when choosing open source software, people should feel the friendly support from the company that released the distribution. We demonstrate to the entire community that open source is comfortable and stylish", - said Dmitry Komissarov, a member of ROSA company board of directors.

Package base of the issued release will be used to prepare the final version in current stable branch of development, namely the long-term support (LTS) release in March 2012, and its certification in the Russian Federal Technical Committee.
